Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since that period of that year.

Victory also indicates he has achieved 21 titles at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
