In a bizarre partnership that challenges traditional predictions, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including free additional story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Mission Revealed

According to the official release, "A mysterious confrontation draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new adventure, where whispers of forbidden rituals and terrifying changes echo through the darkness." The narrative introduces a "strangely garbed woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a clandestine group.

The questline focuses on "bizarre trials and a terrifying enemy" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Changes

The teaser features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser concludes with a dramatic scene showing a character, likely the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Items and Additional Content

Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an unique katana together with several artifacts hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive weapons
• Survey Corps steed

Third Free Story Addition

This release also brings the game's latest no-cost story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature techniques: Naoe reveals a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Crossovers

This marks not the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime franchises. The series formerly featured a 2020 crossover story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that unmistakably nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
