American Military Targeted a 'Large Facility' in Venezuela, Trump Claimed Without Providing Details.

Ex-President Trump has claimed that US forces struck a "significant facility" in Venezuela in recent days. But, the former president withheld information about the exact purpose or location of the target, and officials have issued no further comment from his team.

Vague Remarks Made In a Talk Show

"US forces just destroyed – I'm not sure if you read – they have a big plant, where the vessels come from. Two nights ago, we took it out. So we hit them very hard," Trump reportedly told GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Possible Implications of a Verified Attack

Should a American strike is verified, it would mark the first ground target hit since the US Department of Defense began a buildup of US military presence in the Caribbean region to interdict drug traffickers that the Trump administration asserts operate under the authority of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The initial mission of the military buildup has transformed into a blockade aimed at stopping the country's oil exports.

Online Video and Administration Claims

Trump has for weeks indicated that US forces are prepared to expand the military campaign by hitting objectives inside Venezuela, a strategy that would in theory require congressional authorization.

Video footage circulated online on 24 December seemed to depict an explosion reportedly from an industrial zone in a Venezuelan state. Yet, the footage or the site in question has not been corroborated.

An administration official reportedly told a news network that the president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Military Posture

The Caracas administration has issued no statement on the event Trump described. Additionally, there have been no verified accounts from Venezuela regarding it.

The deployment of US military in the region – a position some have called a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the largest naval operation of the Trump era.

Officials have avoided from calling the operation as a full blockade, but have stated that approximately 15,000 personnel are deployed across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a aircraft carrier group, F-35 aircraft, and Coast Guard cutters to enforce existing economic sanctions.
